Can your grocery shopping trip help change the world?

With so much happening around the world, it’s easy to be overcome by a feeling of helplessness. The humane desire to help families in desperate need can oftentimes be overshadowed by a feeling of despair or confusion about where to even begin.

“While earning your daily bread be sure you share a slice with those less fortunate”

Jackson Browne Jr

Here at Lighthouse Care we have put our hands to the plough to help make a difference for families in South East Queensland. If you have shopped at Lighthouse or donated in the past then you have played a massive part in helping those in need by ensuring they do not go without food. Thank you for the difference you are making. How encouraging to know that your simple act of grocery shopping is bringing tangible hope to those in need. Below are some of the ways that you have been helping change the world around you;

  • Food Relief; Free trolley initiative

We have our ‘Free Trolley Initiative’ that is available to families who are desperate for food or find themselves in emergency situations. Your continued partnership with us helps fund these free trolleys, which oftentimes is the difference between having food for dinner or going without.

  • Discounted Groceries; Up to 70% off

There is a rigorous process that goes into keeping our charity running each week and it is your simple task of choosing to shop with us that helps us keep our shelves stocked and discounted for all. You may be surprised to know that 99% of the food we provide has not been donated to us. The 1% of donated food we receive is given away for free to people in need. We work hard to be able to purchase items from Foodbank as well as suppliers and wholesalers across the globe. We then do our very best to sell these items at a discounted rate or give out for free to families in need.

  • Emergency Support

Thanks to your support we are able to help families in emergency situations like natural disasters, domestic violence, social justice, refugee support and any other emergency situation they may find themselves in. We are able to do this by partnering with local police, government and community organizations across Brisbane who continue to refer people to us for help.

  • Christmas Campaign; Santa’s little helpers

For many vulnerable families Christmas can be a terribly sad and stressful time. Santa’s Little Helpers is a campaign we help run every year with the mission of providing Christmas presents for kids who may not receive any gifts. Many of these children are victims of mental health, neglect, poverty, abuse, custody battles, deceased parents or families in financial upheaval. With your support we are able to continue this campaign and ensure children are having a Merry Christmas.

We hope you feel inspired and encouraged by all the support you have been providing just by shopping with us. Together, we can continue to bring tangible hope to all families in need. ‘Making lives better so that together we can make the world better’ is our mission statement.
