Cyclone Alfred Recovery – Supporting Families as They Rebuild
As communities across Southeast Queensland begin to recover from Cyclone Alfred, we know the effects of the storm are still being felt. While power has been restored and floodwaters have receded, many families are still struggling to restock their kitchens and rebuild what they lost.
At Lighthouse Care, we are continuing to provide affordable groceries, emergency food hampers, and support to those who need it most. Our Loganholme and Hillcrest stores remain busy as families come in to access our $25 trolleys, ensuring they can refill their pantries without financial strain.

Tuesday 18th March
Over the weekend, we were contacted by MP Leanne Enoch to assist families in need at the Browns Plains Community Recovery Hub. In response, we worked closely with Hub Manager Michelle to deliver 8 emergency food hampers to support those still recovering from Cyclone Alfred.
As families continue to rebuild, we remain committed to providing essential food relief to those facing hardship. We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside local leaders and community hubs to ensure help reaches those who need it most.
50 hampers to IWA
Today, we delivered 50 emergency hampers to IWA, working alongside Shama and their incredible team to provide much-needed food relief to families impacted by Cyclone Alfred.
IWA is a community organisation dedicated to supporting women, families, and multicultural communities across Queensland. They provide essential services, advocacy, and practical support for people facing hardship—including newly arrived refugees, vulnerable families, and those in crisis.
Friday 14th March
Today, we delivered 25 emergency food bags to the Logan Community Recovery Centre in Beenleigh, where they were very happily received.
The centre’s team shared that they had been hearing about Lighthouse Care all day—a testament to how deeply our community is coming together to support those in need.
With many families still struggling in the aftermath of Cyclone Alfred, we remain committed to ensuring no one goes without food during this recovery period.
It has now been seven days since Cyclone Alfred made landfall, and while the immediate crisis has passed, thousands of families are still recovering and rebuilding. At Lighthouse Care, we’ve been working tirelessly to ensure that no one is left without the food and essentials they need.
From providing hampers to Local, State and Federal Government, to Police, SES and first responders and delivering food to the and numerous Disaster Recovery Centres and Organisations, we’ve seen firsthand how much this support has meant to those affected. People who lost everything in the storm have found hope and relief through the generosity of our community.
Our Response so far
Here’s what we’ve been able to do so far, thanks to your support:
- 300+ emergency food hampers delivered to shelters and families in need.
- 80+ free trolleys provided to families directly impacted by the cyclone.
- 700+ $25 trolleys distributed this week to help families restock their kitchens.
Thursday 13th March
Today, we delivered 16 emergency food bags to the Upper Coomera Disaster Recovery Centre, where the need for support has been overwhelming.
With many families arriving hungry and frustrated due to the lack of available food, these hampers were deeply appreciated by both the community and the recovery teams. Seeing the relief on people’s faces reminds us why we do what we do—ensuring no one is left without food in times of crisis.

Wednesday 12th March
Today, we continue to provide emergency relief hampers to families impacted by Cyclone Alfred and flooding across Southeast Queensland. If you or someone you know has been affected, please reach out—we are here to help.
We were honoured to support Eagleby Police Beat with hampers to distribute to families and individuals they are working with. These partnerships allow us to reach even more people in need, ensuring relief gets to those who need it most.
The stories we are hearing from affected families are truly heartbreaking yet humbling. One mother of nine children shared that she and her husband had gone two days without eating—choosing to go without so their children wouldn’t have to. Financial hardship meant they were unable to stock up before the cyclone hit, leaving them with nothing.
Because of your support, we were able to provide her with multiple hampers and a full trolley of groceries, including fresh fruit and vegetables, pantry staples, and fridge and freezer items to help her family get back on their feet.
We also working to prepare more hampers to deliver them to Logan City Council to reach more affected families.
Our Loganholme and Hillcrest stores remain incredibly busy as families work to recover from Cyclone Alfred’s impact. Many are restocking their kitchens with our $25 trolleys, ensuring they have the essentials to get back on their feet.
Since Monday, our team has distributed nearly 600 $25 trolleys to families in need—providing much-needed relief and support during this challenging time.
Tuesday 11th March
Today we are delivering our emergency relief hampers to families across Logan and the north side of Brisbane. Many families are still without power and have run out of food as some of the large grocery stores are to start delivering again. We are so honoured to be able to deliver groceries directly to families in their time of need.
Many families needing assistance are also coming to our Loganholme location to pick up our emergency relief hampers and our famous $25 trolleys.

Monday 10th March
We spent the day on the Gold Coast delivering emergency relief hampers to shelters, organisations and families directly affected by Ex Tropical Cyclone Alfred
We were able to deliver 20 hampers to the evacuation centre in Runaway Bay and 30 hampers to the amazing team at Convoy of Hope in Burleigh who specialise in disaster relief.
30 hampers were also delivered to MP Shannon Fentiman who is working closely with affected communities.
Australian Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, contacted us regarding an individual that needed urgent assistance with food. We were able to respond immediately to ensure this person had the food they needed.
Our Loganholme location has access to a cafe space which we opened to the public to come in and connect, get a free barista made coffee and charge their phones. It is great to be able to provide these services for the community.
Convoy Of Hope Delivery
Saturday 8th March
We lost power at our Loganholme and Hillcrest locations on Saturday following the destructive winds of Ex Tropical Cyclone Alfred. Thankfully we had generators on standby and were able to get our fridges and freezers powered to save thousands of dollars of purchased food. This also allowed us to be one of very few open grocery stores for families to get essential supplies immediately following the chaos caused by cyclone Alfred.
Following our appearance on Sunrise we were contacted by SES Logan who were looking for food supplies to help feed their team who are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of the community.
We had great team of volunteers come in to pack more emergency hampers for the community.

Cyclone Alfred has left families across affected regions without power, food, and essential supplies. At Lighthouse Care, we are committed to helping provide immediate support, delivering emergency food hampers to those who need them most. But we can’t do it without you.
Every dollar donated helps us create and distribute hampers packed with long-life essentials, fresh produce, and everyday necessities—giving immediate relief to families in crisis. We are preparing to distribute hundreds of food hampers.
Friday 8th March
With reports of Cyclone Alfred expecting to make landfall early Saturday morning, we have been making emergency relief hampers to ensure that if families loose power we will be able to assist them with essential groceries and non-perishable foods.
Federal Member for Forde, Bert Van Manen with his wife Judi donated to our disaster relief appeal and we were able to give them 11 hampers for the Bethania emergency shelter.
