How a van & some bread helped make a difference to a community in need

What now looks like a well established non-profit charity in Loganholme known for its famous $25 trolleys, free & discounted groceries and friendly faces, Lighthouse Care used to look very different. This is our story.

Lighthouse Care was established in 2004 by a handful of people in Logan who’s passion and mission was to help bring hope to people. With humble beginnings, our outreach started with a little van and some bread lovingly donated by a local bakery.

Wanting so desperately to make a difference in the community; we spent our time driving around hand-delivering bread to people in need. These deliveries eventually included some drinks and produce. As the demand grew we began operating out of a home living room and garage in Eagleby where we could invite people inside for a coffee.

5 years later, with a few curveballs and some location changes along the way; we were assisting 300 families in need each week. It wasn’t long before the operation needed a huge expansion to be able to keep up with the demand and help all families in need. In 2009 after desperate attempts, heavy pursuits, faith and miraculous provision; we finally found our own store where we continue operating from today.

Fast forward to 2023, our team are now helping 70,000 families with 2 locations in Loganholme & Hillcrest and an online store offering click & collect & home deliveries. Making lives better so that together we can make the world better’ is our Mission Statement. We are dedicated to creating a place of hope, support and encouragement so people’s lives can be transformed.
