A Letter to Our Lighthouse Care Family

A Letter to Our Lighthouse Care Family

Dear friends,

For 21 years, the $25 trolley has been at the heart of Lighthouse Care. It has been more than just groceries, it has been hope, relief, and a way forward for families doing it tough. We know for many of you, this trolley isn’t a luxury – it’s a lifeline. That’s why what we’re about to share is so important.

Change can be daunting, especially when it touches something so many people depend on. That’s why this has been one of the biggest but also most necessary decision we’ve ever made.

Why We Had to Make a Change

The truth is, keeping the $25 trolley going has become increasingly challenging. Every week we fight to source not just enough food, but the right food. And the reality is, there simply isn’t the same food around to buy anymore. With rising costs, limited supply, and so much competition for stock, we’ve reached a point where doing things the same way was no longer sustainable.

For years, we’ve worked miracles behind the scenes to make the trolley possible. Many people believe everything in it is donated, but less than 2% actually is. Every other item we purchase and negotiate for, fighting for every cent to make sure you can still feed your family affordably. Some weeks we’ve scraped together what we could get, even when it meant short-dated products or unpredictable boxes. But we knew our families deserved better.

Listening to You

Before making any changes, we asked for your feedback and you spoke clearly:

  • 87% of you wanted more essential, staple items.
  • 82% asked for consistency so you can plan meals.
  • 85% requested frozen vegetables and healthier options.
  • 55% said you needed long-life products to stretch the weekly budget.

You told us what matters most and we listened.

The $25 Trolley Reimagined

We’re proud to introduce the biggest change in Lighthouse Care’s history: a brand-new $25 Trolley built on consistency, quality, and essentials.

Every single week, your trolley will now include 19 essential core items designed to make real meals for your family: fresh milk, bread, rice, pasta, frozen vegetables, baby potatoes, canned fruit, spaghetti, baked beans, tomato paste, crackers, biscuits, jam, stir fry sauce, and even laundry powder to stretch the household budget.

No more guessing what will be in your box. No more worrying about short dates. Just consistent, quality, essential food every single week to help you plan and provide.

Introducing the new $25 Trolley packed with 19 Essential items.

Our Personal Commitment to You

We know this is a big change. We know some families will need time to adjust. Please hear our hearts: every decision we make comes back to one thing helping Aussie families.

This isn’t about cutting back; it’s about moving forward. We are building the $25 trolley to be stronger for the future so we can keep serving families for decades to come.

We promise to continue listening to your feedback. If something isn’t working, we’ll change it. If we can make it better, we will. Our commitment has never wavered: to bring you the very best value, the very best quality, and to make a real difference in your life.

Together, We Can Feed More Families Than Ever

On top of the new $25 trolley, we’ve added optional meat and snack boxes so you can customise what your family needs. And as always, we will continue passing on every extra free item we can get our hands on fresh fruit, vegetables, pantry items straight to you.

This is a positive step. A necessary step. And one that will allow Lighthouse Care to continue bringing hope and practical help to thousands of families every week.

Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for walking this journey with us. And thank you for letting us be part of your family.

With love and hope for the future,
Ron & Debbie Hill
